Welcome to the Mt. Tamalpais Interpretive Association (MTIA), a cooperative organization run wholly by volunteers to help you enjoy Mt Tamalpais State Park, just north of San Francisco.

For more background on the park, visit the State Park website.

The MTIA offers:

Guided hikes, from easy strolls to rigorous multi-milers as well as moonlight and moonrise hikes.

 Coming in 2013

The MTIA Interpretive Hike theme on Saturday, March 16 was requested by the Marin History Museum in keeping with their current perspective about Dorothea Lange, the famous depression era WPA Photographer, who spent many summers living and vacationing with her family at Steep Ravine Cabins. A curator from the Museum will be on the hike to offer insights into Lange's legacy and connection to Steep Ravine. On Sunday, March 10th we'll offer a preview hike of the March 16th hike. (Giant Trillium may be blooming.) Both hikes will originate from Whitegate Ranch Trailhead.

[Whitegate Ranch; This trailhead is along Panoramic Highway about 2.5 miles past Pantoll Ranger Station. After driving past Pantoll Ranger Station starts a long steep descent to Stinson Beach. Panoramic Highway is wooded for about 2.25 miles after passing the Ranger Station. The trailhead is in the open, on the left (Parking alongside of road for about 12 cars.)just after the second hairpin turn after coming out of the wooded part of Panoramic Highway. When you see the water tank on the left you are almost there.]

The Mt.Tam State Park, April through September, Wednesday evening walks, will be starting April 3, 2013, see the 2nd Quarter schedule in the Hiking section available March 7th, 2013.

Coming in late April 2013, is the Annual MTIA Wildflower Hike with Botanists. Meet at Rock Spring, at (intersection of Pantoll Rd.and West Ridgecrest Blvd.), 10:00am to form Botanist led groups to explore the spring wildflowers. Will return by lunchtime.
